Education

The Suhanko mine will need skilled workers for a wide range of tasks, from mining in the field, to installation work in the workshops and design work in the office. So you can come to work at the mine with a wide range of qualifications.

Training for actual mining jobs such as miners is provided by companies such as REDU, Lappia, OSAO and Riveria. These institutions also train other workers needed in mines, such as fitters, cleaners, catering workers and earthmoving workers.

The mine also needs a significant number of graduates from universities of applied sciences. In particular, engineers and tradesmen in various disciplines are needed for planning and management positions. The nearest universities of applied sciences are Lapin AMK, Oulu AMK, Kajaani AMK and Centria.

The Oulu Mining School at the Faculty of Technology of the University of Oulu covers the entire mining value chain in the fields of geosciences, geophysics, mining engineering and mineral processing. Geosciences can also be studied at Aalto University, the University of Helsinki, the University of Turku and Åbo Akademi. At the nearest University of Lapland, you can study subjects such as law and social sciences. These are also in demand in the mining sector.

The Labour Administration and the ELY Centres organise mining training in Lapland in cooperation with REDU and Lappia. They also provide important licensing and card training for both the employer and the employee.
