Mining Industry Programme 2024 - 2030

The mining industry programme of the municipality of Ranua includes measures to overcome the challenges and exploit the opportunities of mining. These include identifying and supporting opportunities for business growth and development, a competitive supply of premises, housing and land, improving access to labour through Employment and Economic Services and recruitment companies, facilitating the settlement of businesses and new employees in Ranua, and increasing municipal communication and marketing.

Sustainability and responsibility have also been chosen as objectives for the programme. Measures have been designed to develop sustainable and responsible business practices, strengthen social acceptability and ensure environmental sustainability.

The timeframe of the mining industry programme is defined to cover both the construction phase and the start-up phase of the Suhango mine. The timeline is based on Suhanko Arctic Platinum's estimate of an investment decision in the summer of 2024.

Preparation of the mining industry programme

The mining industry programme has been prepared with strong stakeholder consultation and information gathering. Within the framework of the Ranua Municipality study project, two mining workshops were organised, visits were made to mining sites, consultations were held with Employment and Economic Services and educational institutions, and an active dialogue was held with Suhanko Arctic Platinum.

Mining Industry Programme has been approved by the Ranuca Municipal Council and will guide the municipality as it prepares for the largest investment in its history.
